Loved it!

I found this very helpful having recently suffered a heartbreak. It helped me to see where I went wrong in the relationship and where my partner fell short. Funny, light-hearted, and to the point. Some great advice here. Gives me hope for my future relationships. Great read for both men and women, written from a male perspective.

I just had a pretty painful breakup, figured out that I was the reason the relationship needed to end and decided I really need to work on myself. Working on getting through the break up and either moving on or trying again with her after I find a new version of myself I'm actually happy with, in the end I need to be more open and adult with my relationships. Adult not meaning sexually but being mature and respectful and being partners instead of trying to become one person. This book is a compilation of writing pieces that offers view points on relationships that we all know but some we refuse to listen too. A nice short read that will leave you thinking about how you approach relationships and how you construct bonds with the people around you. Plus it's cheap, so why not read it?

Easy, but no Introduction

I have read Massumi's "Parables for the Virtual" (see my review), and so I was enlisted in the speed, vividness, direct address of the language of affects. So when I read this book, I was ready for what was to come. I felt right at home, and the book's more "casual" approach to these ideas made me feel that I was among colleagues.
But I don't know who this book will benefit, in the absence of reading the more considered texts of "Parables..." It has a "marketing" feel to it; that the book seeks to make these ideas more familiar; and yet if I come to these texts first, I might wonder just what kind of book am I reading. Is it psychology? Am I supposed to do something different because of what this book offers?
I really don't think these notions are ready for this kind of treatment yet. I think that they need more fermenting in the brew of Continental thinking (I am not sure how much of Deleuze's "univocity" and "virtuality," and "difference" is taken into account, for instance); I have always felt that the "pragmatic" orientation rushes too quickly to the "cash value" of an idea -- which I suspect might be in play here,
Still, Massumi's work, and that of his colleague Erin Manning (also interviewed in the book, but not listed as an author!!!), will help us along to a new outlook on just what is "real" after all, and just what it is that we need to learn to relate to and appreciation in one another, and the earth, if we are to sustain this endeavor of human aspiring. I say, it will help us move from the "deep" work of Deleuze and Derrida, but only after we have done that work, not as a substitute for it.
I'm with you Brian and Erin, but this book is a bit too breezy for what is at stake, in my estimation. But then I became a philosopher in the context of Hegel's Phenomenology and Logic -- so it is probably me that is behind the curve.

I Want This Green Man!

Sweet and fun. This little book had an amazing story. I loved the characters, they were both bright and complex. The male was strong and determined, while the female was smart and confident. I loved the interactions between the two. I really loved how the author told the story of two different species falling in love without losing who they are. Each changed for their love, yet kept the greatness that made them individuals. I am pleasantly surprised at how much I loved the sci-fi alien romance of this story, I look forward to reading more in the future.

A Reading the Paranormal Review

Aww, guys. This one was fun. A human woman who just wants the chance to have her own family gets matched up with a hunky alien trying to find someone to love. SHENANIGANS ENSUE. Well, not shenanigans, exactly. More like cultural differences. And mating fun! Sort of.

I mean, it takes a while to get to the mating part. FOR REASONS. Actually, it's because tall, sometimes-green, and hunky is worried about giving it to his new lady love. You know, because they REALLY GIVE IT TO THE LADIES.

That's understandable, really, since nobody wants to ruin their lady friend on their first time around.

On top of the relationship issues, the lovebirds are also dealing with some dissension in the ranks. As it turns out, not everybody can be trusted and you need to watch your back when you're in full-on mating mode. That's just a good rule of thumb in general, actually.

Bottom line: Liiiiiked it! Fun with a sometimes-green hunk.

This is a sexy sci-fi. Earth of the future is not too wonderful. It seems to be pretty totalitarian--even to the point of forcing women to incubate children if they are single by a certain age, children they don't get to love and raise. But, this unpleasant future also has guardian angels--the angelic type beings of the celestial mates organization that find a partner of another planet for the people who want one.
Our heroine wants a mate, wants children, wants to choose her own way--so she contacts the celestial mates organization and they find one for her on another planet. The first problem is that she has to get to their ship without getting stopped. The second problem is that the mate and she don't really understand each other's cultures.
Don't worry, love conquers all--with some hot sexy scenes along the way.

We must remember that it was written in 1972 - prior to "golden days" of NLP, CBT, Body Language and so on. It is absolutely boring and doesn't give any sensible advice what so ever. Yes, I bought it some 3 decades ago and read it recently hoping that it would make some sense, it still doesn't. Books from Richard Wiseman and NLP are more entertaining.

This book is a result of teaching courses in the areas of Computer Methods in Power Systems, Digital Simulation of Power Systems, Power System Dynamics and Advanced Protective Relaying to undergraduate and graduate students in electrical engineering. The present edition includes a sub-section on solution procedure to include transmission losses using dynamic programming in the chapter on Economic Load Scheduling of Power System. In this edition an additional chapter on Load Forecasting has also been included. The present book deals with almost all the aspects of modern power system analysis such as network equations and its formulations, graph theory, symmetries inherent in power system components and its formulations, symmetries inherent in power system components and development of transformation matrices based solely upon symmetries, feasibility analysis and modelling of multi-phase systems, power system modelling including detailed analysis of synchronous machines, induction machines and composite loads, sparsity techniques, economic operation of power systems including derivation of transmission loss equation from the fundamental, solution of algebraic and differential equations and power system studies such as load flow, fault analysis and transient stability studies of a large scale power system including modern and related topics such as advanced protective relaying, digital protection and load forecasting. The book contains solved examples in these areas and also flow diagrams which will help on one hand to understand the theory and on the other hand, it will help the simulation of large scale power systems on the digital computer. The book will be easy to read and understand and will be useful to both undergraduate and graduate students in electrical engineering as well as to the engineers working in electricity boards and utilities etc.

About the Author

I can't say enough good things about this book!!! It's a must read.

I can't say enough good things about this book. I absolutely adored it.

The story of a closeted Thornewell Shipton who due to a tragic loss has buried his grief under an impossible workload and effervescent Rile Dashwood who is working as an escort to put himself through culinary school.

Thorne only allows himself Friday nights to indulge with an escort service. When his usual escort retires he is forced out of his comfort zone by Dash. Dash instantly recognizes that Thorne is only existing, not really living. He makes it his mission to show Thorne what he is missing out on, whether he likes it or not.

Dash and Thorne must each come to terms with their growing feeling and decide if they want to leave the safety of a "professional" relationship.

I loved the chemistry between Dash and Thorne. Dash was able to bring Thorne "back to life" essentially while still being sensitive to the fact that he wasn't "out of the closet." The sex scenes were super hot without taking over the whole story. Silvia Violet was able to create a perfect balance of steamy scenes and character build up.

Waiting For The Sequels

After the ending of this book I scratched my head because there are to be two sequels in 2016. I cannot imagine what they will deal with because this one is so detailed and so fulfilling in bringing two complete opposites together.

Thorne is a hard-driving, gorgeous (see the cover) 42-year-old closeted Atlanta workaholic and Dash (aka Riley) is a 22-year-old high-end rent boy and aspiring baker whose lifestyles and life goals could not be further apart. That is, of course, until Thorne hires Dash one Friday night. We are quick to discover that they do have something in common--terrific, sometimes kinky, and always very detailed sex.

This book is filled to overflowing with as much sex as one might be able to compare to stuffing a cupcake with too much cream (oops!). But it works, because it forces Thorne and Dash to wonder what life might be for them beyond the bedroom or various positions in other rooms and over other pieces of furniture in Thorne's magnificent apartment.

Their journey to love-me-love-me-not is almost tortuous, but in the end it works, or at least is starting to work. Maybe that's where the sequels are heading. I will be waiting.

I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

This book was just OK for me. It was very heavy on the dialogue, but not much was said. I felt that the characters were only slightly developed. You only really knew their surface, but didn't really get down in to their own self.

While I enjoyed the story, I thought that it could have been so much stronger. Thorne was a character that I wanted to hit over the head and be like, "what are you doing?!?" He seemed very clueless and despite not wanting to come across as cruel, he did for me.

Then you have Dash. He was a character that I really liked. He was naive, sweet and going after what he wanted. I do wish that we were able to see more of his life without Thorne - especially during the middle of the story.

Finally, the resolution was too neatly packed for me. Plus, what happened with the roommate/former lover? He seemed to just be thrown in to the story without any real substance.
